USC vs. UCLA

2007

Marvimon, Los Angeles A tongue-in-cheek competition proposed between the graduate art programs at USC and UCLA, with a bronze award called the Castelli intended for the winning school. When both institutions resisted participation, the refusals, email chains and etiquette surrounding the invitation became the exhibition itself. The finished Castelli plaque was ultimately delivered to Russell Ferguson at UCLA. What began as a proposed collaboration became a work about institutional self-consciousness, competitive structures and the revealing content of non-participation. Collaborators / contributors: Holly Vesecky, floral base for the Castelli; Eben Goff; correspondence with USC and UCLA participants.
