SmogShoppe, Los Angeles A fully choreographed performance, installation and film that used SmogShoppe itself as stage architecture. A silver 1963 Lincoln Continental was forced sideways into the narrow interior and became an entrance machine: guests emerged from the automobile in pairs and danced down an LED-lit runway while being filmed in reverse tracking movement. Ryan Heffington choreographed the opening sequence as a stylized car crash that abruptly transformed into tightly controlled dance. Jonathan Krisel filmed and edited the event; Zach Cowie and Petey Kleinman contributed to the music. The result gathered architecture, performance, fashion, food, music and film into one of Nelson's most formally composed social works. Collaborators / contributors: Ryan Heffington, choreography; Jonathan Krisel, film and editing; Zach Cowie and Petey Kleinman, music; Rya Kleinpeter; Danielle Motor; Chad Brown; additional dancers and contributors.
